It is the first question almost every traveller asks us: how much does a safari in Tanzania really cost? The honest answer is that it depends on three things — how many days you travel, how many people share the vehicle, and the comfort level of your lodges and camps. Below are our real 2027 prices for private safaris, what they include, and the extra costs you should budget for.
Our private safari prices per person per day
- Mid-range, 2–4 guests: US$500 per person per day
- Mid-range, 5 or more guests: US$400 per person per day
- Luxury: from US$600 per person per day
Mid-range means comfortable lodges and permanent tented camps with private bathrooms. Luxury means premium lodges and high-end tented camps in the best locations. Every safari is private — just your group, your own 4×4 vehicle and your own guide.

All prices are per person for a private safari starting and ending in Arusha.
What is included in the price
- All national park and conservation area entry fees and government taxes
- Your private 4×4 safari vehicle with pop-up roof, fuel, cool box, charging points and drinking water
- A professional English-speaking guide (Joshua himself on many trips)
- Accommodation at the level you choose
- All meals on safari as shown in the itinerary
- Airport transfers in Arusha / Kilimanjaro
Park fees are a large part of any Tanzania safari — the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater are among the most expensive parks in Africa to enter — so always check whether a quote includes them. Ours always do.

Extra costs to budget for
- International flights to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha.
- Tanzania visa: most visitors apply online for an e-visa before travel. Fees depend on nationality — check the official immigration website for the current amount.
- Tips: tipping is customary. Many travellers budget around US$20–30 per day for their guide, per group, plus a little for lodge staff.
- Drinks at lodges (water on safari is included).
- Optional activities such as a hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti (around US$500–600 per person).
- Travel insurance, which we strongly recommend.
- Zanzibar beach extension after your safari, if you want one.
How to make your safari better value
- Travel in a group of five or more to get the lower US$400 per person per day rate.
- Travel in the green season (roughly November and April–May): lodges are quieter and many offer lower rates, and the landscapes are lush.
- Choose the right length. Five to seven days covers the main parks without spending too much of your budget on driving.
- Book directly with a local operator rather than through an overseas agency that adds its own margin.
