The 9-day "Beyond The Hills" safari is our most comprehensive northern circuit experience. You'll explore four iconic reserves — Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, and Lake Manyara — plus a unique cultural excursion to meet the Hadzabe Bushmen near Lake Eyasi, one of the last hunter-gatherer communities on Earth.
This tour combines the greatest wildlife spectacles in the world with a deeply human experience. Meeting the Hadzabe — who still hunt with bows and make fire with sticks — puts Africa's wilderness in profound perspective. All our safaris are offered as private trips, starting on any day.
Detailed Itinerary
Begin your safari with a drive to Lake Manyara National Park. Arriving for lunch, you'll enjoy an afternoon game drive through the groundwater forest teeming with baboons and monkeys, and along the lakeshore where hundreds of flamingos gather. Keep an eye out for the famous tree-climbing lions.

Descend into Africa's Eden — the Ngorongoro Crater — for a full day's game drive covering the entire crater floor. See lions, elephants, hippos, flamingos, black rhinos, and hundreds of other species in this extraordinary natural amphitheater.

After breakfast, drive across the plains to the Serengeti. Stop at Olduvai Gorge — the "Cradle of Mankind" — for an optional visit before arriving in the Serengeti for an afternoon game drive.

Full day in the central Serengeti around Seronera — the best area year-round for predator sightings. Multiple game drives with a picnic lunch in the bush. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, and all the classic savannah wildlife.

Explore the western corridor of the Serengeti, home to the Grumeti River crossing and exceptional hippo pools. The western Serengeti offers a different landscape — more wooded and green — with its own distinct wildlife.

Drive north to the Lobo Valley area with its dramatic rocky outcrops (kopjes). This remote zone offers exceptional big cat sightings and fewer tourists. Explore at leisure with morning and afternoon game drives.

Drive from Serengeti south to Tarangire National Park. En route, game viewing continues across the open plains. Tarangire, known for its ancient baobabs and massive elephant herds, offers a beautiful contrast to the Serengeti.

Final morning game drive in Tarangire. Search for lions, leopards, gerenuk, and the enormous elephant families that call this park home. After lunch, drive back to Arusha.

Common Questions
The Big Five are lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros. All five can be found on this safari, with the best rhino sightings at Ngorongoro Crater.
Typically two game drives per day — morning and afternoon. In Serengeti you may also do a sunrise drive or evening drive.
