Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Arusha
Arrive in Arusha, where a driver will meet you for transfer to your hotel. You will have a trek orientation with your Kilimanjaro guide and an opportunity to get any rental items you may need.

Day 2: Drive to Kilimanjaro National Park Londorossi Gate, Hike to Mti Mkubwa Camp
After breakfast and briefing, drive to Londorossi Park Gate. A forest track leads to Lemosho Glades, where the trek begins. Hike through montane forest to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp.

  • Elevation: 1,400m to 2,650m
  • Distance: 6 km
  • Hiking Time: 2-3 hours

Day 3: Hike Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
The trail steepens and enters the heather moorland zone. Cross several streams and continue over Shira Ridge, descending to Shira 1 Camp.

  • Distance: 8 km
  • Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

Day 4: Hike Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
A gentle hike across the plateau leads to Shira 2 Camp on moorland meadows by a stream. This is an excellent acclimatization day.

  • Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

Day 5: Hike Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp
The route continues east up a ridge towards Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp, an essential acclimatization day.

Day 6: Hike Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Climb the Barranco Wall, then descend to the Karanga Valley and connect with the Mweka Trail.

  • Hiking Time: 3-4 hours

Day 7: Hike Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Continue up to Barafu Camp, completing the South Circuit, offering summit views from different angles. Prepare for the summit push.

Day 8: Summit Day – Hike Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, Descend to Mweka Camp
Start the summit attempt early in the morning, reaching Stella Point before the final push to Uhuru Peak. Descend to Mweka Camp.

  • Elevation: 4,700m to 5,895m (Uhuru Peak), down to 3,090m
  • Distance: 5 km up, 13 km down
  • Hiking Time: 5-7 hours up, 5-6 hours down

Day 9: Hike Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, Return to Arusha
Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate for summit certificates. Transfer back to Arusha.

  • Distance: 10 km
  • Hiking Time: 3-4 hours

Day 10: Transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport, Depart
Drive to Kilimanjaro Airport for departure or continue with an optional safari.
