The 8 Days Lemosho Route is one of the best options for climbers seeking a longer trek with plenty of time for acclimatization. The route begins on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro, offering a less crowded and scenic approach. Over 8 days, you’ll gradually ascend through diverse ecosystems, from lush rainforests to alpine deserts, all while providing ample time to adjust to the altitude.
This route connects with the Machame Route at Shira 2 Camp and is considered one of the more gradual ascents. The journey includes several scenic camp locations and stunning views of the surrounding landscapes, including the opportunity to admire the famous Barranco Wall and the majestic Kilimanjaro summit.
The trek starts with a 4-hour drive from Moshi to the Londorossi Gate, where the trek officially begins. From there, you’ll follow a well-established path, with stops at Mti Mkubwa, Shira 1, Shira 2, Barranco, and Karanga Camps, before the final push to Barafu Camp and ultimately the summit. The extra day of acclimatization helps increase your chances of reaching the summit and allows for a safer and more enjoyable climb.
Whether you’re an experienced mountaineer or an enthusiastic adventurer, this route offers a beautiful and rewarding experience on your way to the roof of Africa.
