EXCELLENT Based on 11 reviews Kaia S2025-02-19Verified Deep nature, light footprint, animals, birds, trees, best guide! Dream experience. The proximity to animals, to be surrounded in the vastness of the Southern Serengeti, or in the Eden of Africa the Ngorongoro Crater, with a safari trip that suited my budget, I will never forget! Joshua, the founder and experienced guide knew how and where to go, answered all my questions as I was doing research before choosing what trip and what operator, and all my questions about animals, the parks, and the Masai. The lodgings and camp sites were dreamy, the food was good (I dont eat meat and it wasnt a problem). Travelling solo, I value transparency, knowing the plan, and trust. I highly recommend. jack2025-01-17Verified The unforgettable safari From start to finish, our safari experience with Sustainable Safaris Tours was absolutely incredible, thanks to our amazing guide, Joshua, and the seamless arrangements made by the company. We were picked up at the Namanga border and driven to Arusha, where we stayed for two nights, setting the tone for what would be an unforgettable adventure.Joshua was the highlight of our safari experience. His professionalism, knowledge, and warm demeanor made every moment memorable. Not only was he an excellent driver, ensuring our comfort and safety throughout the journey, but he was also an exceptionally educated guide. His deep knowledge of the local wildlife and terrain enhanced our experience. Within just 30 minutes of entering Tarangire National Park, Joshua managed to locate 2 lions, while other drivers hadn’t been able to find them from morning to noon. This is a testament to his experience and familiarity with the parks. Joshua’s insights into animal behavior, local culture, and geography helped us appreciate the surroundings on a deeper level, making us feel both educated and connected to the land. The safari itinerary curated by Sustainable Safaris Tours was well thought out, covering the iconic destinations of Tanzania, while also offering opportunities to relax and absorb the breathtaking landscapes. After our stay in Arusha, we headed to Tarangire National Park, where Joshua’s expertise came to the forefront. We were able to see a variety of wildlife, including elephants and lions, in the first moments of the game drive. Our next stop was Karatu, followed by a visit to Ngorongoro Crater, where we enjoyed a half-day drive exploring the diverse wildlife within the crater. The following three nights in the Serengeti were equally memorable. We were fortunate to see an abundance of animals, including the Big Five, while also learning about their habits, habitats, and conservation efforts. Each place offered a unique experience, providing stunning views and excellent service, and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to relax after exciting days of safari.Sustainable Safaris Tours exceeded our expectations not only in providing the best safari experience but also in taking care of all the logistics. From the moment we booked our trip, the company’s communication was clear, and the arrangements were perfectly organized. The seamless transfers, excellent vehicle conditions, and thoughtful touches like providing water during the game drives made the experience comfortable and stress-free.Tanzania itself is a paradise, and we were fortunate to experience its beauty in the best way possible, thanks to Sustainable Safaris Tours. The combination of professional, knowledgeable guides, well-planned itineraries, and excellent accommodations made this safari one of the most unforgettable experiences of our lives. Sonia B2024-12-08Verified Safari on my mind... Firstly, an enormous thank you to Joshua for pulling off a last-minute miracle and arranging an unforgettable safari for two clueless Americans who had no idea how far in advance you should plan for something this extraordinary!Just days before our travels, we were directed to Joshua and his team, who crafted a three-day Serengeti safari itinerary with incredible precision and care. It was absolutely perfect—so much so that we wished we could have stayed longer.Due to our last-minute planning, flights to the Serengeti didn’t align with our schedule. Instead, we flew into Arusha, where we met the amazing Michael, our guide and driver. We embarked on a road adventure that turned out to be an unforgettable highlight. The three-hour drive to Karatu gave us a front-row seat to the vibrant life and beauty of Tanzania: majestic Maasai herders, roaming wildlife, and stunning sunsets. Our stay at the Omega Hotel in Karatu was delightful. The charm of the place was matched by the warmth of its staff, and the town’s rich red clay soil was so vivid it felt almost otherworldly. The next morning, we set off on another scenic journey toward the Serengeti, passing the awe-inspiring Ngorongoro Crater. The rugged road ahead, which Michael fondly dubbed “the African massage,” was an adventure in itself, bouncing us along as we soaked in breathtaking landscapes.Days two and three were dedicated to game drives, and what an experience they were! In just 1.5 days, we encountered giraffe families, herds of antelope, wildebeests, elephants, hippos, a cheetah, buffalo, rhinos, exotic birds, and even an anaconda. Spotting four of the Big Five in such a short time was beyond thrilling. Our first night in the Serengeti was spent at the Osononi Tent Lodge, a magical haven surrounded by the untamed beauty of the wild. As we lay in our cozy tent (with hot showers and full bathrooms!), we were serenaded by the sounds of the savannah—lions snoring miles away, ostriches ambling by, and hyenas cackling under the star-studded sky. The staff here treated us like royalty, handling our curious traveler quirks with grace and humor. On the third day, we ventured into the Ngorongoro Crater, where the scenery was nothing short of divine. The sheer grandeur of the landscape was humbling, a reminder of nature’s unmatched artistry. As we made our way back to Karatu, we visited lush banana and rice plantations and had the privilege of meeting the Maasai tribe in Kigogoni. They welcomed us with vibrant singing, dancing, and a heartfelt glimpse into their way of life. Touring their homes and taking photos of their beautiful families was a deeply moving and unforgettable experience. This journey was a kaleidoscope of awe, gratitude, and wonder. To Joshua, Michael, and everyone who made this possible—thank you for giving us memories that will live in our hearts forever. Rachel V2024-12-03Verified Fantastic safari with a mission-driven company We did an 8 day private safari with Joshua (the founder of Sustainable Safari Tours) in October 2024, on the recommendation of another tour provider. It was a last minute booking and he worked really hard to make it all come together for us. Joshua was happy to work to our budget (we opted for mid-range) and delivered great value for money (e.g. organising hot lunches, rather than standard boxed lunches). We did the Northern Circuit, visiting Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and West Kilimanjaro. We saw so many different types of animals and birds, including all the big 5 -- and while the Rhino looked more like a rock we were so far away, we got super close to tons of lions (and cubs!), elephants, and even a couple cheetahs. I'd highly recommend doing some early morning drives, as the big cats seem to be most active then. We left at 6am one day and probably saw 20+ lions & cubs within an hour. We also opted for a hot air balloon one day -- expensive, but an unbelievable experience! The accommodation throughout was lovely. We stayed at Farm of Dreams in Karatu, Osinoni Lodge, and Original Maasai Lodge. The Maasai Lodge was definitely a highlight -- the best food of our trip, amazing views, a great pool, and really interesting cultural activities! Perhaps most importantly, though, is Joshua's mission for Sustainable Safaris. He's determined to give back to his local community and help drive change. In his village, he is pushing for equal access to education and fighting against FGM. He also trains new tour guides, a crucial step to helping them land jobs. He was very respectful of the land, staying on defined roads/trails and picking up garbage to keep the parks clean. And when we had leftovers one lunch, he shared them with a local school group. In taking a trip with Sustainable Safaris, you can be confident you are contributing positively towards the local communities and economy. All in all, a fantastic trip! Aaron T2024-11-02Verified Great tent safari in Serengeti NP, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire NP First of all, thanks a Joshua, who made a very nice and exciting safari possible for us at short notice. We felt very well looked after and safe. Arrangements as well as booking were straightforward, fast and always very friendly. The organization seemed professional and all our wishes were taken into account. At our request we were merged with another group with whom it was very harmonious and fun. The accommodation exceeded our expectations and it was cooked fresh for us almost every day. Apart from leopards, we all saw Big 5 and loved the scenery in the Serengeti, the biodiversity in Ngorongoro Crater and the Baobab trees elephant herds Tarangire National Park.Clear recommendation for Sustainable Safari Tours with Joshua. Julia L2024-10-21Verified Amazing communication and care as a guide and operator! Joshua is an incredible guide and operator. I reached out to Joshua at the recommendation of another tour operator and he was able to help me join a fantastic 3-night 4-day trip in which we saw the BIG 5 (including a black rhino) plus so many other incredible animals. Joshua is a prompt and clear communicator and went out of his way often to make me feel excited and secure in doing this type of trip solo. He also is deeply integrated into his communities and his knowledge of Tanzania comes out immediately. Working with someone local was super important to me and so I was so glad to be working with someone who loves where he lives and is from. If you are looking for a customized special tour that is rooted in Tanzania, please please please get in touch with Joshua. santhosh Karanth2024-09-27Verified Unforgettable Honeymoon Safari with Sustainable Safari Tours Sustainable Safari Tours made our honeymoon unforgettable. They listened to our needs, respected our budget and dietary preferences, and offered a no-pressure approach. Their support went beyond booking—they stayed in touch throughout our trip. The food, prepared by the "stomach engineer," was delicious, and our guide Joshua’s expertise helped us spot three of the Big Five in just 1.5 days. Overall, the service was exceptional, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly recommended! Marina E2024-09-16Verified Unforgettable Safari Experience with Sustainable Safari Tours! Our 5-day safari with Sustainable Safari Tours was exceptional. Journeying through Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro, we camped under the stars, which brought us closer to nature. Joshua, our guide, was a standout. His flexibility with our itinerary and ability to adapt to last-minute changes made our trip stress-free and enjoyable. His passion for wildlife and conservation was evident and infectious; he was not just a guide but an educator, keen to share his knowledge and love for Tanzania’s natural heritage. On top of that, his connections and open mindset enable us to enroll on other activities such as climbing mount Meru - previous to our Safari. The experience was not just a tour, but a deep dive into the beauty and fragility of these ecosystems. Thanks to Joshua and the team, we left with a profound respect for Tanzania’s natural wonders.Highly recommended for an authentic and thoughtful experience. Isabelle F2024-08-31Verified Best 5 Days of my Life! I had the most amazing time on the 5 day safari with Joshua! I was able to achieve finishing the Big 5 and couldn’t be more happy! He went out of his way to make sure I was able to get the best photos, and was so kind and welcoming. I truly couldn’t have asked for a better experience, every moment was breathtaking. I am so thankful to go on a safari with this company, and would recommend it to anyone I come across!! Alexander S2024-08-31Verified Great Experience, great staff and well taken care of. This has been my first safari ever and I can truly recommend this company for anyone who is looking for a great time with affordable prices. We have been in the serengeti and the ngorongoro crater with Joshua (the guide) and Biggie (the chef). Biggie really knows how to provide you with great food and was always pleasent to have around. Joshua really knows his stuff and made sure that I had the great experience I was looking for. He was always very helpful and provided a lot of information about the animals we encountered. He especially has a great eye for spotting and identifying animals, seeing them even when you yourself would have trouble to do so with binoculars. That made it possible that we had many great encounters. I can definetly recommend this company, based on my experience, especially also for solo travellers. I joined this tour with other travellers, so here you can have a nice experience as a group or as a solo traveller. Thank you again for everything!
